Apple Wins In Copyright Court, iTunes Store Remains Open
It looks like Apple reigns supreme in a dispute with music publishers to increase song royalties from 9 cents to 15 cents on songs purchased through iTunes and other digital retailers, according to media reports. Apple opposed the royalties hike and threatened to close its music store if the two parties couldn't come to an agreement. The Washington, D.C.-based Copyright Royalty Board declined the request from the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA), which was the board's first ruling on digital downloads. The decision will set royalty rates for the next five years. The board's decision also keeps Apple, the largest music retailer on the internet, from losing $144M in profit, and from being forced to push back at record companies to pay the proposed royalty increase out of their pockets. "We're pleased that this decision freezes the current rate for CDs and digital downloads for the five-year term," said RIAA chairman Mitch Bainwol in a statement." No party got everything it wanted, yet at the end of the day, the certainty provided by this ruling is beneficial."

The rapper, who's spent the bulk of his career as an artist -- and, eventually president of Def Jam Records -- abandoned his contract with the label back in December 2007 and snagged a $150 million deal with Live Nation that included financing for his imprint. Jay's new venture will develop fresh talent and, reportedly, include a music-publishing unit. In other Jigga news, the rap superstar is scheduled to release his 11th studio album, 'The Blueprint 3,' in December.
DMX Hospitalized For 'Fear of a Stroke,' Misses Court Date
According to recent reports, DMX was rushed to a South Florida hospital on Sunday morning for "fear of a stroke." The embattled rapper was due in an Arizona court today to address a bench warrant that was issued last time he failed to appear in court. "I don't know the cause, but I know that he's still hospitalized and that they've admitted him and won't be releasing him for a couple more days," X's attorney Charles Kozelka confirmed. It's unclear why the rapper, who has been free on $25,000 bond since being extradited from Florida to Arizona, was back in the Sunshine State, but Kozelka says that X is free to travel despite his recent legal woes and pending trials. The rapper's court date has been postponed until Monday.

Rapper Webbie was charged with felony eluding, driving under the influence and misdemeanor possession of marijuana after a high-speed police chase. Webbie, whose real name is Webster Gradney Jr., was arrested Sunday in Hattiesburg. He was released Monday from Forrest County Jail on $25,000 bond, a jail official said Tuesday. Authorities said the 23-year-old rapper attempted to elude police Sunday after an officer tried to pull over a 2009 Dodge Challenger for a traffic violation on Interstate 59. He ignored police lights and continued on I-59, colliding with another vehicle. Police later found the damaged Challenger in a parking lot on U.S. Highway 49. Police later stopped a gray sedan and Gradney was arrested, authorities said. Gradney, a native of Baton Rouge, La., was charged with one count of felony eluding, one count of DUI and one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana found in the Dodge Challenger. WACK!! Lil Wayne Skips VMA After-Parties To Make His Court Date
He may have been the one to watch (next to Britney Spears, of course) at the MTV Video Music Awards but as soon as the show was over, Lil Wayne was on a flight to New York for a court appearance. The pre-trial hearing stems from a 2007 arrest in which Wayne was hit with a gun possession charge. His lawyer, Stacey Richman, stressed that Wayne is taking the matter seriously. "He is the utmost, consummate professional," she said. "He recognizes his entertainment obligations, his business obligations and his obligations to the court.' Officer Diane Hornung testified during the hearing that in July 2007 she boarded Wayne's tour bus after smelling marijuana drifting from an open door. She later ordered the passengers off the bus and confiscated a bag of marijuana from a man who was trying to flush it down the toilet. Upon further investigation Hornung testified that she saw Wayne in the back of the bus trying to stuff a gun into a bag.Monday, September 8, 2008

Rappers is Out of Control again... According to our inside sources who attended Game's Album Release Party last week in New York City, while Young Buck thought he caught a stunt on stage by dissing G-Unit, the real show took place backstage. Here it is...... Irv Gotti and Crew just happen to be backstage waiting for the rapper to finish his set with Game. When Young Buck approached Irv Gotti to say "what's up", Irv Gotti replied back " Nigga, don't say what's up to me, if it was up to me, you'd be dead right now. As far as I'm concerned, you're still a G-Unit nigga to me." Before things could get outta control "Our insider told us that an OG who happened to be next to them at the party got in between and told Irv to "leave him alone and give the young boy a pass." That's when Irv and his entourage backed off and left the situation alone. See this is why I keep telling y'all that 90 percent of these rappers are Bitches. It takes a real nigga to stop a bad situation from gettin worse.
